What should one do if ones friend is not a practicing Muslim?

Question ID: 30428

as salaamualaykum mufti
trust that you are well.
Mufti have recently started working in a firm in town. As i am new to town i was not sure were the various masjieds were located for me to go and make my thur namaaz and so forth.
i approached the only other muslim in the office and his response was why do people always ask me as i dont go. I was very shocked at this response as he is muslim.
Later on one of my colegues said that he drinks alcohol and has left islam completely. I told my parents about this situation and they feel i should not get involved, however i feel like i have to say something to him and make him aware of what he is doing and inshallah with Allah ta alaas help he would realise all that he has done. I also have a fear that if i do approach him he will perceive me to be as the cape townians put it saaligh (holy) even tho i am not.
am i right to feel this way for a fellow muslim?or should i rather make dua for him?
our input will be greatly appreciated.
jazakullah khair

Give him Dawaat, with all insight, foresight and wisdom.
Constantly make Duaa for him. Be diplomatic.
