Question ID: 30297

Aslaamu Alaikum
. Could you please give a fatwa for the following at your earliest convenience:

A Muslim person was asked/invited to attend a christian work
colleague’s funeral in a church. The Muslim attended. He had No intention of Kufr.

In the church during the funeral everyone was given a paper with prayers and other writing etc. The muslim just out of interest had a look at what was written on it but did not read it verbally or say any prayers.

The vicar and other christian’s repeated some hymns and prayers and words etc. But the muslim person did NOT say any hymns or prayers

on numerous occasions during the funeral the vicar made everyone stand up and then sit back down, as this might have been part of the christian funeral, so the Muslim also stood up with the rest of the Christians, maybe because he felt awkward if he didnt stand up.
Does attending this funeral and standing up during the funeral procedures affect his Muslim faith? Does he have to repeat kalima and Nikah?

Please note the Muslim had no intention of kufr and did not want to
show any form of disrespect to the christians so he attended the funeral. He sat in the church and observed this funeral.

Although he is a terrible sinner. He has not left the fold of Islaam. His Nikah is still valid, in tact. He must repent sincerely and never do that act again.
