Dear Mufti
Please assist me as I am very concerned and distraught about my sister.
I have found out that my sister has made nikah to a muslim man, but she has done this without our knowledge and my parents consent, my parents do not know as yet as I am scared to tell my mother as she disapproves of this man. She is 30 years of age, divorcee.
I would like to know if her nikah to him is valid? The witnesses were some men from the musjid/Ulm whom my sister does not know of. The man is not working and my sister is supporting him. They have not made this knowledge public to anyone.
My mother at this point in time only thinks that my sister has intentions to marry him (she does not know that my sister has in fact already married him) and there have been endless arguments between them…my mother is trying to convince her that he is wrong for her given this mans history with all the wrongs.
Please advise.
