What is the ruling on seeing Moulanas and Aalims?

salaams mufti I have inlaws who seem to like to go to different moulanas and aamils when they have problems and tend to drag my wife who has no problems.i am not against the moulanas and aamils but i feel that if there is no need then why should they go.my mother in law tends to read and blow on water and send to my home for the family to drink she says she reads duaas for protection against evil and nazar and blows in to the water what is sharia ruling regarding all of the above.
