A muslim becomes influenced by atheistic ideologies to an extent that he finds himself in serious doubt concerning his religion. He finds himself moving between a state of disbelief and belief. How does such a person know whether imaan has left him or not?. After a short period he makes taubah and wants to come back to the straight path. Is it necessary for him to recite the kalimah infront of witnesses or is it ok to recite the kalimah in ones heart bearing in mind that no one else but himself knows of this situation.

Doubt in the mind and in thought does not remove one from the fold of Islaam. However, the person must repent sincerely, stay amongst the pious, distance themselves from the source of atheistic influences, become regularly in Salaat with Jamaat, read the Qur'aan, read Durood Shareef, and focus on their Deen and on becoming a better Muslim.
