Refusing a beggar

Question ID: 27528

Asalaamu Alaikum Mufti

We constantly have children and adults begging at our door for money and food. Some are extremely drunk, some are sober grown men and some are women with notes describing their situation.

Most of my neighbors around me have high walls with safety locked gates and the people have easy access to my door as I do not have high walls and a lockable gate.

My wife, children and I don’t mine giving but it is starting to get out of hand where they come one after the other. Money is tight now and we sometimes refuse and then sometimes feel guilty and just give.

Is it a sin to sometimes refuse, as I will admit we do at times get frustrated and irritated with people coming such a lot?

It is not a sin to refuse. Politely do so. Better give little.
