Family Not Happy With Boy Who Proposed

Asssalamou’alaikoum. I recently had a proposal from a divorced guy. I am still single. We texted for a week and then I told my family. We haven’t seen each other. I did istikaraah and I got a good feeling about this boy. However my family is totally against this proposal. I have stopped communicating with the boy but I still think about him.Should I still hope that he may be the one chosen by Allah for me? Why does Allah put someone in our life if there is no use?
