Permissibility of keeping a bird as a pet

slms mufti.is it unislamic to have a bird as a pet??? i bought one for my daughter and my mother-in-law told me that i should take it back because its unislamic and a bird should be free and not be kept in a cage because Allah didnt create birds to be kept in a cage and by keeping it, it will bring bad luck into my hous.

Any bird which is not accustomed to or seasoned to be caged, restricted is not allowed to be kept as a pet. If it does not mind to be caged then it is permissible to do so. But it has to be treated well at all times otherwise it will be sinful bringing the displeasure of Allaah. Be cautious.
