Permissibility of eating shellac

As salaamu alaikum
I know that in question #4348 you said that the consumption of shellac is haraam.
1. Why is this so?
2. Why does Mufti Abdulla Patel (www.muftisays.com) clasify it as permissable?
3. Bees secrete honey and honey is halaal - is this not the same concept?

1) If not total transformation takes place.
2) Perhaps he regards transformation has have taken place.
3) It is not as simple as you explain.
