No privacy in own home

Respected Ulama e Kiraam
. Assalamualaikum

I have a request for a shariah ruling.

I am married for two years. My husband is a professional person.Initially we were living with my in laws .Recently, we moved in to the basement level of my in laws home. My home is accessed by a flight of stairs INSIDE my in laws house.
My husband refuses to allow me to close the main door to my home. My in laws keep the key to the door and my husband refuses to allow me to have a latch installed on the door. They insist that THE DOOR HAS TO BE LEFT OPEN AT ALL TIMES.

On the outside of my door is situated a little open office which is used by my father in law as well as my husbands unmarried brother. They can see right into my home.If i close my door my mother in law walks in without permission.
This morning I was doing some household work and my mother in law entered my home without permission and reprimanded me for being in my pyjamas which she considers shameless outside the bedroom and for being without a scarf in the privacy of my home, while my husband and I were alone together.A heated argument followed and my husband has sided with his mother on the door issue.I am miserable as I do not enjoy privacy in my own home.

My in laws are considered very pious as they are involved in tableegi and Islamic programmes but they insist on their cultural ways even though they migrated from India to S Africa over 10 years ago.

Am I entitled to have my door locked at all times? (main entrance door)
