Mixed whatsapp group

Question ID: 26585

Asalamualkym Respected Muftis,

In our area due to high crime rate ,we created a WhatsApp group for men only to create awareness and share information related to security.

A new application called Telegram was introduced and we all migrated to it which allows more group members. Women from the area were added to the group .I disagreed and left the group due to it being a mixed group.

A response and advise from a local Aalim in the area was given. Please guide me as I disagree and perhaps I’m wrong as I’m not a scholar of Deen.

Also please expand on the comment on Sahaabiyah participating and securing areas.

Message below from our Aalim.

Regarding females in the telegram group will not constitute the intermingling as stated in shariah. If it is maintained only for communication of aspects affecting us then it will be fine to include females. During the time of difficulty the Sahaabiyah RA were consulted and participated in the securing of our areas. Utmost respect must be maintained in the group meaning no sexist jokes belittling vulgarity etc. Furthermore profile selfies should be abstained from especially the females.

Male members of the family should join the Telegram group and communicate there updates and alerts to their female counterparts. If there is no male member then anonymity ?within the group should be used. The analogy using the Sahabiyah (R.A) is not valid.
