Aas Salam Alay Kum,
I am a follower of Hanafi Madhab I would like to ask if a person is sitting in the masjid doing nothing and if there is second or third jamaat going is it compulsory to join the fardh namaz with the intention of nafl.
I had a argument with my friend over this I told him nafl is ikhtiari and not compulsory but he provided a verse from the quran saying the quran says bow with those who do ruku and sojood.
I told him this ayat is for wojoob farziyat of jamat and not what you say.
Please advise,
