Fathers responsibility for childs care

Assalaamu `Alaykum

I have the following query.

From the Shari`ah point of view, upto what age is the father responsible for the expenses of his son? For example his education.

Private answer

Once the son begins to become financially independent then the duty of the father ends. However, this does not mean that the son must sit idle even if he is earning.
