Family financial

Question ID: 25212

As-salamu-alaikum Mufti sahb

My parents are totally dependent on me financially. Currently I provide them with some of my own money and some inheritance that they received. Unfortunately the inheritance money is running out and I cannot afford to pay the shortfall between the inheritance and my existing payment. I have 3 sisters, 2 of which work and are financially secure. My question is:

1. Is it totally the son’s responsibility to provide for all requirements of parents? Can my siblings totally absolve their responsibility towards my parents?

2. Is it unreasonable to ask them to make a contribution? Is there a shariah ruling on the contribution that must be made by each sibling or is it purely based on affordability.

3. Do my sisters have to get permission from their husbands if they wish to contribute or should they just inform them.

2) No, affordability.

3) If it is their own money no need for permission.
