Disseminate misinformation (lies) about successes etc to misinform the enemy during war

In war, are the Mujahideen allowed to disseminate misinformation (lies) about successes etc to misinform the enemy? What would be termed permissible and what impermissible?

Nabi (S.A.W) said war is strategy (tactics). Thus to use methods to protect and safeguard one's life and Imaan which will waylay , misinform and mislead the enemy is permissable.
