Assalaamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh.
Respected Mufti, some people make an accusation, that the `Ulama of Deoband, and the followers of the Deoband Maslak as a whole, are racists. They claim that Deoband is only for Indians, and a proof of this is that the language which is given preference is Urdu. For this reason, they say, you will not find a non-Indian Deobandi `Aalim.
So my question is this; that is there any truth in this claim, or is it a baseless accusation? And if it is false, then why does Darul Uloom Deoband and all those Madaaris which follow the Deoband Maslak, teach only through Urdu? And lastly, was there ever a non-Indian `Aalim who qualified from Darul Uloom Deoband?
Jazaakumullahu Khayran.

Read the History of Deoband when I was studying we had students from Malaysia, Afghanistan English, New Zealand, Fiji, Trinidade etc. I have Moulana's of Deobandi training in Zambia, Malawi. In SA there are Deobandi Darul Ulooms teaching via the arabic language also.
