Competitions in shariah

Assalaamu Alaikum

My understandings of competitions from a Shariah perspective (i stand to be corrected) is that if there is a cost involved in a competition eg. sending a sms with no guarantee of winning then this is not halaal since a cost was incurred for the competition and there is no guarantee that one can win, which in essence is based on chance…similiar to a gamble regarding chance but in this case, the organisation hosting the competition does not gain any profit from the sms etc which does not tecnically making it a gamble…..

It would be appreciated if you can comment on this regarding the Shariahs ruling

May Allah reward you for your efforts….

Due to charge not the end result or intention or not profit set, the deal is not Shaari compliant.
