Braids and scarf for black female muslim

I know that hair extensions are not allowed in Islam but as a black woman,the
hair is difficult to manage ,so can braids be allowed given this special situation and also as a black female Muslim ,living in a black township,when wearing Hijaab , one is ridiculed and called an Indian , can one just wear the scarf to cover just the head , which is normal in the black community and not the neck , what might be called “Indian” style?
