Aqeeqah

I have read in one of your responses that slaughtering 1 sheep for aqeeqah for a boy is permissable. Please confirm. If aqeeqah cannot be done on the 7th day can one do it on any later date when it is affordable or must a specific number of days be counted from birth date to obtain best date for aqeeqah? Jazakallah
