Khatams

Would you please tell me about khatams (Not Khatme Khwajgan) because i am having trouble in finding out if it is allowed in the shariah.
Also please tell me about the custom of Khatam every thursday night. People do it and ask me take part but i said i want to first find out if it is allowed, for this reason i have been called a “WAHABI!”
