(1) Islaamic History The character and habits of Hadhrat Mu’aawiya (RA)
Hadhrat Mu’aawiya (RA) was exemplary in the love he displayed for Rasulullaah (SAW) and the fear he possessed for Allaah. He was such a tolerant person that he would be smiling when people were speaking harshly to him. Hadhrat Qabeesah bin Jaabir (RA) says that he had never before met anyone as soft and kind-hearted as Hadhrat Mu’aawiya (RA). Sometimes when people spoke harshly to him, he gave them gifts and said, “I do not find as much pleasure in anything as much as I do in swallowing my anger.” His love for Rasulullaah (SAW) was so much that he jealously guarded a few relics of Rasulullaah (SAW) that he had. Before he passed away, he made it clear that the hairs and nails of Rasulullaah (SAW) that he had with him were to be placed upon his eyes, ears, and nose when he is laid to rest and that he be shrouded in a shawl that belonged to Rasulullaah (SAW). He once heard a Hadith in which Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “When a person is appointed as a leader over people and he places a barrier between himself and them, Allaah will then place a barrier between Himself and that person.” When he heard this, he immediately appointed someone to present the needs of the people to him. He was a very simple person and would walk about the marketplaces with patched clothing. He would even deliver the Khutbah in the Jaami Masjid of Damascus wearing patched garments. This sun of Damascus eventually set in Rajab 60 A.H.
(2) Allaah’s Power The treasures beneath the ground
Allaah has placed various types of oils beneath the surface of the earth, from which man is able to produce many types of fuels that are essential for his progress, such as petrol, diesel, etc. On a daily basis, man extracts this oil from the ground and has never in history required as much as they presently do. A great part of modern life will grind to a halt if oil production has to stop. Who has placed this large reserve of oil underground for man? Allaah says, “We have with Us the treasures of all things (rain, mineral wealth, food, spiritual guidance, etc) and We send them down only in stipulated quantities (as the need arises, according to Allaah’s wisdom)”.

[Surah Hijr, verse 21]

(3) A Fardh Stopping worldly activities when the Adhaan for the Jumu’ah Salaah is called out
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “O you who have Imaan! When the call (Adhaan) is made for (the Jumu’ah) Salaah on the day of Jumu’ah (Friday), then hasten towards Allaah’s remembrance (towards the Jumu’ah Salaah to take place in the Masjid) and leave trading. This is best for you (in both worlds) if you but knew (the eternal value of the Salaah, which far exceeds the temporary value of the wealth you may attain by trade)”.

[Surah Jumu’ah, verse 9]

When the Adhaan for the Jumu’ah Salaah is called out, it is necessary to stop all worldly activities and to hasten for Salaah.

(4) A Sunnah The time for the Tahajjud Salaah
Hadhrat Aswad (RA) reports that when he asked Hadhrat Aa’isha (RA) about how Rasulullaah (SAW) performed the Tahajjud Salaah, she replied, “Rasulullaah (SAW) slept during the first portion of the night and got up for Salaah during the last portion of the night. He then returned to lie down and got up when the Adhaan was called out. If he needed to take a bath, he would do so; otherwise he would perform Wudhu and leave for the Masjid.”

[Bukhaari 1146]

(5) An Important Act and its Virtue The reward of spending in the path of Allaah
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that spending in the path of Allaah earns a reward that is multiplied seven hundred times.

[Mustadrak of Haakim 2441, from Hadhrat Khuraym (RA)]

(6) A Sin Seven destructive acts
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Abstain from the seven destructive acts.” When the Sahabah (RA) asked what these were, Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Shirk, black magic, murder, interest, devouring the wealth of orphans, fleeing from Jihaad and slandering a chaste woman.”

[Bukhaari 2766 and Muslim 262, from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (RA)]

(7) This World The value of this world in the sight of Allaah
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “If the world had the value of even a mosquito’s wing in the sight of Allaah, He would not have given the Kuffaar even a drop of water to drink.”

[Tirmidhi 2320, from Hadhrat Sahl bin Sa’d (RA)]

(8) The Aakhirah The balconies of the people in Jannah
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “As for those who have Imaan and who perform good deeds, We will certainly settle them in balconies of Jannah, beneath which rivers flow. There they shall live forever”.

[Surah Ankaboot, verse 58]

(9) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW) Avoid direct sunlight
Rasulullaah (SAW) advised people to avoid sitting in direct sunlight because it spoils the clothing, causes a person to smell with perspiration and also causes suppressed illness to surface.

[Mustadrak 8264, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas (RA)]

(10) Qur’aanic Advice
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “O you who have Imaan! Do not betray Allaah and the Rasool (SAW) and do not knowingly betray your mutual trusts (by revealing each other’s secrets, breaking promises, etc)”.

[Surah Anfaal, verse 27]
