Measuring the beard

From where should one start measuring their beard? By grabbing all hair from the bottom of the lip including the physical chin? Or by grabbing all hair growing from the bottom of the chin? Please provide reference if possible. Also, is trimming allowed after a fistful of chin hair or do all beard hairs on the face have to be fistful? Jazakallah Khair, Make dua for my islah.
