Asalaamu Alaikum Mufti,
We have a little shop selling second hand furniture and appliances. I buy and sell for cash. However, most of our customers cannot afford the goods then we allow them to secure the goods on lay-bye.
Sometimes after a month, customers come back and just say they cannot afford to continue and want their deposits back.
Can I withhold or keep a percentage of the money as I have in the interim indicated to other potential buyers that the goods are not for sale as they are on lay bye.
