Assalaamu alaikum. Revered Mufti, I have a cousin who is 53 years old and is a
very prosperous business man. His wife passed away with a terminal illness 3 years
ago and he lives with his unmarried daughter, who is 24 years old.
He refuses to re-marry until his daughter has found a suitable partner and she is just not interested in settling down – she refuses all suitors and is content to stay
single. I find it unnatural that both father and daughter live all alone, go away on
holidays overseas and locally together and now the just the 2 of them are planning
to go on Hajj 2010. The daughter is most possesive and will not let her father go
anywhere without her. If he does go to a function without her, she keeps phoning
him on his cell phone to check up on him. I find the whole situation is unislamic and
unhealthy but he is not prepared to take any advice. Maybe, some sound advice
from you would help.
Jazakalla Khair
Was salaam.

The man must realise that we have come to go.
The natural order of life must be given preference. Islaam demands natural life not dubious, doubtful and placing ourselves in danger.
