Assalamualaykum Mufti
A few weeks ago I was accused by someone in my husbands family of scripting a response to a discussion that the family members were having in their BBM family group. This person said emphatically “I know for a fact that …” indicating that it was not the poster of the comment that had drafted the message and that it was in stead me. I also received a subsequent message from the accuser saying to me that I had a perfect command of the English language. This is the “evidence” that the relative used. Mufti, as Allah is my witness I had NOTHING to do with the scripting nor did I have any knowledge of what the subject matter of discussion was in their group. Furthermore, I was never party to the group. What I would like to know is: what does Allah say about falsely accusing someone? What is the punishment for such a sin?Is it permissable for me to abstain from the company of such people who have such little regard for me?Till today I have not received an apology and am deeply hurt by such a false accusation so much so that it has placed a huge strain on my marriage. My husband did not defend me and did not approach the relative to set the record straight.

Jazakallah Khair.

1) False accusations is a major sin. Earns the wrath and displeasure of Allaah. Liable if proven guilty to be punished via Tazeer e.g. flogging
2) Tazeer - the Judge will decide a suitable punishment like flogging.
3) Not totally. Do not be close to bad trouble makers and causers.
4) Forgive your husband, rely on Allaah, have Sabr, make Duaa, he will soon come to his senses when he will be on the receiving end.
