Question ID: 21728

Assalmu alaikum, Honourable Mufti Sahab, I read quran one or two ruku daily Alhumdulillah. So after reading a ruku or two I put a plastic jem clip to mark where I have stopped. So that the next day or when ever I intend to read again I may know easily that where I had stopped and continue reading from there on. One hafiz told me I should not do that as I am disgracing the quran as if I am torturing it and gave an example that suppose someone twists your ear how will you feel. So I stopped putting the clips. But according to me I am not doing it with the intention of disgracing it (Allah forbid), but just to mark the place to make it easy for me. When I put paper it flies off or if others read the quran then there are chances he will misplace the paper and I may not find the place where I read it last. Please tell me what I am doing is right.

Jazzak Allah!

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُاللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

As long as you are not damaging the page, it is permissible.

وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَام وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ
