Loud Zikr

Question ID: 20657

Can you please advise me whether loud Zikr in a masjid is permitted.

The following is the situation as follows in my local Masjid.

A prominent person of our Community is sitting for Itikaaf with 5 other persons. Daily after Fajr Salaat, this individual commences with extremely loud Zikr in the form of “Ya Allah”. This continues for an hour notwithstanding the fact that other Mussalles are reading Quraan.

My view is that this is simply a total disturbance to myself and many other Musallees who are unable to concentrate on the recitation of the Quraan as a result of the extremely loud Zikr

My questions are as follows:
1. Is this type of loud Zikr allowed in term of the Sharia?
2. Is my view correct? If “YES”, should I rather leave the Masjid and recite my Quraan and other daily Wazeefas at home.

For information: neither the Imaam nor any of the Masjid Trustees have spoken to this individual to respect the rights of the other Musallees.
