Question ID: 20036

When doing Sunnah Itikoff you must remain within the four walls of the masjid except for leaving for the call of nature.
Does the four walls mean the walls of the prayer area where you are staying or the external walls of the masjid?
The reason I ask is that I have made the intention to do Itikoff in the masjid for the last ten days of Ramadan.
The bathrooms are in the basement of the masjid, as well as the showers.
It is permissible to leave the prayer area to use the bathroom without affecting the Itikoff but is it also permissible to shower without breaking the Itkoff?

Ask the trustee and the Imaam what are the boundaries of the Masjid. I am sure that the toilet would not be part of the Masjid. Also you cannot go for a ‘Nafl’ shower whilst in Itikhaaf, only necessary shower.
