Before stepping into the masjid

Assalamu alaikum,
Respected Mufti Sahab, I want to know if one is going to the Masjid so before stepping in can one read Darud Sharif and then the dua of entering the Masjid or should one send Salam on our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) and then read the Dua of entering in the Masjid?
If Salam has to be said and not Darud then could you give me the Salam words? I mean in which way one should say salam what wil be the words.
