A person was thinking to himself. He was thinking how irreligious people especially in the west have become. He was thinking how indifference towards religion in general perhaps causes people to overlook the truth about Islam because they aren’t paying attention to spiritual matters. The mind wandered and he thought how even born muslims are often ignorant and muslims should “question” their faith. What he meant was that they should ask questions and increase in faith and that if they ask questions and are honest, they will see the truth of Islam and increase in faith. He did not mean that by ‘questioning’ they should have doubts. He now wonders whether his thought of muslims ‘questioning’ their faith is kufr ? He is doubtful whether he spoke or said anything because he was thinking these thoughts to himself or uttered under his breath to himself.

He knows his intention was not kufr because a wish for muslims to be more knowledgeable about religion.

Has he commited kufr if he spoke those words under his breath?
