(1) Islaamic History Hilful Fudhool
Oppression and theft were the order of the day in Arabia during the Period of Ignorance. The order of the jungle prevailed at the time where the powerful would prey upon the weak. When one of the leaders of Makkah once bought some goods from a trader and refused to pay him the full price, the poor man could find none to redress the situation. It was then that some concerned people from Makkah gathered at the house of Abdullaah bin Jad’aan to form a committee that would stand for the rights of the weak. Amongst the group of people was Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam), who was then still a youth. They named this committee the Hilful Fudhool. When he grew up to be a young man, Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) rallied the leaders of the prominent tribes to again unite in an effort to bring peace to the region, restrain the hands of oppressors and secure the safety of the travellers. He managed to align the Banu Haashim, Banu Abdul Muttalib, Banu Sa’d, Banu Zuhra and Banu Tameem tribes together to achieve this end. Many people were assisted through this union. In fact, even after announcing his Nabuwaat- prophethood, Rasulullaah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) stated that he would readily support such an organisation if he was summoned to do so.
