السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Dear Mufti

I need some clarification on a matter plz.

I have tenant who is living in a house that I own.

He has been living in the hse for the past year.

His rent was being sponsored by his sister for the first 6 months and there after till now he was paying his rent on his own.

He works for himself in buying and selling goods.

Recently for the first time he has not been doing well in business and has defaulted in paying his rent and utilities .

Question is : Can we collect zakaat on his behalf to pay for his rent and utilities ?, As he is uncertain when he would be able to pay for his rent and utilities .

I have spoken to his sister and her husband and they have told me that he has become very unstable with regards to funds and work.

He is married and has four small children  who are all minors under the age 12 years old.

His sister and them are currently helping with the food in the house , as his wife frequently contacts his sister to ask for help.

I asked both the sister and her husband if he is Zakaatable.

Which they both confirmed in the positive  (yes).

And what is your advice ?

Keeping in mind that last year his family whom are all South Africans help to get him and his family out of Yemen when the War broke started and Dr Imtiaz Suleman(Gift of the Givers) helped in getting them out of Yemen.

Not sure what to do ?

Trying to look at all my options.

Plz feel free to ask me any further questions in shall ah.

Plz give advice.

Jazakallah

Zakaat can be used to pay his rent.
