Salaam mufti.
I wanted to know what is the ruling on unfair treatment between sons and grandchildren in Islam. I live in a joint family, my mother inlaw always gave her older son all love and his wife and children, me my husband and my children have always been second best. No matter what my husband does hes always wrong, she always wants him to listen to his big brother, and my husband feels that the big brother is filling his mum with bad things about him. All this unfair and unequal treatment is causing hatred and fights in the house, but my mother in law when my husband brings it up says that were jealous, when if in front of us you treat someone better is bound to cause jealousy, if her elder son children want anything she will get it, or make her younger son get it, but if my children want something she just tell them ask your dad. Both brothers pay money towards house but she constantly bigs up her elder son and not the second 1.

Do not let this sort of treatment bother you. This is part of life. Ignore it, do not let depression over-run you. Make Sabr, Smile, be positive. Be good to yourself, you husband and your children.
