Asalaam-u-alaikum
Growing up in South Africa, we were taught to read the Quran in Arabic, and not much emphasis was placed on actually understanding it in our spoken language (in our case, English).
With Quran being a book of guidance, we were taught that we have to live by it, would it not be beneficial to read it in English? Whilst I know that reading the Quran in Arabic, as it was revealed, hold great reward for the reader, at the same time, shouldn’t it also be read in English so that we can understand what our book says?

See our translation "Quraan Made Easy".
Read little per day. But remember 'tilawaat' reward lies in the Arabic recitation. It is good to read a reliable translation.
