Assalamu alaykum honorable scholars of deen.

I have an important question to ask and require a ruling. My question is :
Is it permissible to sell ebooks at a very cheap price. Its a big collection of books on one CD.These ebooks are based on science ,engineering, mathematics and technology (repairing, installing and building of machines, electronic and electrical equipment) Most of these ebooks are however COPYRIGHTED. I have obtained these books for free.I am a tutor in this field and I feel sorry for the people who want to learn but can’t afford it. My intention is to educate the people and not to make lump sums of money.

Reason for selling:

-There is a lack of resources for people to learn
from/,br>-These books are very expensive to buy and it can mostly be obtained by buying it overseas

-Majority of the people cannot afford an education and this will help them greatly.

-It’ll assist them in opening their own businesses where jobs are hard to come by

-these books are rare to find in their hard copy.

-expanding their knowledge to help them become more productive.

I aim to sell it in Africa.I am from South africa. The people here are in a dire need of education as the unemployment rate is very high.So opening small businesses will help them. The profit I aim to make is R5 -R10 not much.Would this money be halaal for me for resources and time used and would honourable Mufti/Molana advise me on what and what not to do.

Some Ulema agree with the concept and details of 'Copyright'. We do not. So in your view you can sell and charge for your CD and time/effort.
