Assalaam alaikum,

During Diwali I and my Hindu friend were invited to someone’s home. My Hindu friend had purchased an idol of Ganesh as a gift. She had said that we will share the cost of the idol, out of fear that she would feel bad I did not say anything. I have not given the money yet, will it be permissible for me to give the money for the idol? If not, how should I refuse so that she does not feel bad?

JazakAllah

AsalaamuAlaikum

Do not participate in this act of promoting ‘Shirk’.
Be straight and frank.

In the first place you should have not accepted the invitation.
Say the truth to avoid future complications.
