I was told that I cannot keep my beloved dog when I got married because my mother in law told me that it is forbidden in islam, yet I know of many muslim families who have dogs as family pets? There is no rule in the Qu-ran the prohibits dogs. It is said that the Prophet (pbuh) told not to sell dogs or use in a form of trade. I must have missed something, but I didn’t read anywhere in the Qu-ran that a dog is napaak. Now my dog lives with my mother and I visit twice a month. Understand that, I believe the dog was created to be a loving friend and companion. I was raised with all sorts of pets but the dog I find is still amongst the most lovable of all. Why can I not have my dog back because my mother in law says its wrong?
