Illiterate old woman wants to go for haj

asalaamualaikum, an elderly lady in her late 70s wants to go for haj, but she is illiterate she does not know any surahs by heart nor does she know how to read the quraan, and her memory is such that she cannot remember if you try and teach her, this is extremely sad because of this she does not know how to read salaah. Will mufti please be able to advice me on this issue?

Try to ascertain whether she is ''responsible'' i.e. Sane. If so, then she may proceed for Hajj. Her lack of knowledge will not be a hindrance on the obligation of Hajj.
