Asalmualykum

I require some advice.Myself as a laymen how do I differentiate whether a learned scholar is salafi or ahlus-sunnah-wal-jammah.

With the arab ulema coming to our shores and giving talks how does a lay person know whether we should take his advice or not.

This is def confusing the laymen as its very easy to fall into the salafi sect as most of us look upon prominent Imams of the 2 Harams.

I attended a talk by The Imam of Madinah Sheik Salaah al Budair last night. He gave some valuable nasihaat and also touched on

The 4 madhaabs. For a lay person like myself how do we differentiate on the truth, especially if its prominent Ulema as IMAMS

Of the Harams.

Jazakumullah.

The follower of the Ahlus Sunnat wal Jamaat will regard the adhering to any one of the 4 Illustrious Imams of Fiqh as 'Wajib' compulsory. Also will regard the Sahabah(R.A.) as 'criterion of Rights and wrong' - See books on site for more info on this.
As i do not know what sheik Budair Said about the 4 Madhaabs I cannot comment.
If informed i will comment
