We bought a shop at the end Sept2009.We had a sale agreement and payments were done timeously. When the sale was negotiated amongst other info the seller passed the lease to us.We negotiated that we would sublet from him and would pay him rental based on his lease and would adhere to the conditions of his lease. He got a letter from the landlords allowing us to sublet. After that lease ending which is 3years later, and putting a new lease on our name it has come to us that the seller had made 20% monthly on us without our knowledge. The lease that the seller showed us upon purchasing the store was not entirely correct as the original lease in the landlord’s possession was the same but had the rental amount scratched out and reduced by 20%.The seller made a total of R122336.60 extra incl the vat amount in those 3years.We have felt upset and felt that we have being deceived. We have called the seller and wanted to find out if such a transaction is permissible and the income halaal on his part?
