Assalam o aliakum,
As you know, there are many many times number 7 and its multiples have been mentioned in the Quran and the Hadith. I heard someone on youtube (a scholar, do not remember which one) saying that the arabs at the time of the Prophet ﷺ‎ used 7 to represent many or multitudes and not necessarily the actual number 7. Similarly, I heard someone else say about the hadith about Allah’s ﷻ‎ Rahma being 70 times greater than the mother, that a literal 70 limits Allah’s ﷻ‎ attribute of Rahma and therefore the interpretation of it being a literal 70 should not be used.

Is this information about the symbolic use of 7, 70 and 700 to represent multitudes of varying degrees as opposed to the literal numeric interpretation correct ?

JazakAllah Khair.

Accept both interpretations.
It will not cause harm.
