(1) Islaamic History Hadhrat Ummu Habeebah (RA)
The real name of Hadhrat Ummu Habeebah (RA) was Ramla bint Abu Sufyaan. She was born 17 years before Rasulullaah (SAW) announced his Prophethood. She was first married to Hadhrat Ubaydullaah bin Jahash Asadi, from whom she had a daughter called Habeebah. It was on account of this that she was given the title of Ummu Habeebah. She had migrated with her family to Abyssinia, where Ubaydullaah became a Christian. Hadhrat Ummu Habeebah (RA) therefore separated from him and he later died as a Christian. Rasulullaah (SAW) then sent a proposal of marriage to her, which she happily accepted. She appointed Hadhrat Khaalid bin Sa’eed (RA) as her representative, and her marriage was performed by Najaashi the king of Abyssinia. She then joined a caravan and reached Madinah. Hadhrat Ummu Habeebah (RA) was a pious woman and was particular about following the Sunnah of Rasulullaah (SAW) and advising others to do the same. She once heard Rasulullaah (SAW) say that the person who performs 12 Rakaahs Nafl Salaah daily will surely enter Jannah. She then performed these Rakaahs regularly until her dying day. Muhadditheen have reported 65 Ahadeeth from her. She passed away during the Khilaafah of her brother Hadhrat Mu’aawiya (RA) in the year 44 A.H. and is buried in Madinah.
