(1) Islaamic History Ummul Mu’mineen Hadhrat Hafsah (RA)
Hadhrat Hafsah (RA) was the daughter of Hadhrat Umar (RA) and the true sister of Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar (RA). She was born five years before Rasulullaah (SAW) announced his Prophethood. She was first married to Hadhrat Khunays bin Hudhaafah (RA), who was fatally wounded in the Battle of Badr and then passed away a while later. It was after this that she was married to Rasulullaah (SAW). Hadhrat Hafsah (RA) was a woman of great virtue, about whom Ibn Sa’d (RA) wrote that she fasted all day and engaged in Ibaadah all night. This was a practice which she maintained until the day she passed away. She had a great aversion for conflict and always feared the advent of Dajjaal. She possessed profound knowledge of Qur’aan, Hadith, and Fiqh. The books of Ahadeeth quote sixty Ahadeeth from her, which she narrated from Rasulullaah (SAW) and from Hadhrat Umar (RA). She passed away during the Khilaafah of Hadhrat Mu’aawiya (RA) in Madinah in Sha’baan 45 A.H. The governor of Madinah Marwaan led the Janaazah Salaah and she was buried in Jannatul Baqee.
